Remarks on Donald Trump’s Phoenix Rally

Deedra Abboud, Candidate for U.S. Senate on Donald Trump’s Campaign Rally

Phoenix, Arizona: August 22, 2021, Arizona Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate, Deedra Abboud released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s Campaign rally:

“I was deeply disappointed with President Trump’s decision to hold a campaign rally in Phoenix today. A campaign rally a mere ten days after a national tragedy would be a poor decision even in an election year, but to hold one so soon after Charlottesville, when it’s three years before he has to run again, is indefensible. Now is the time for bipartisan healing, to reach out past our own political base, and to define who and what we stand for.

Arizona epitomizes all that is best about America. We come from all backgrounds, we speak dozens of languages, we worship in many ways. We are ranchers and tech workers, we are Native Americans and college students, we are immigrants and teachers.

It is this diversity that makes Arizona strong, and we will not be used as a political prop to enflame tensions around the nation.

Instead of using tonight’s campaign rally to bring the nation together, the President ratcheted up his rhetoric against the media, defended his tepid response to Charlottesville, attacked his own party’s senators, and teased the pardon of a criminally convicted former sheriff.

While I do not welcome the politicization of our state, I am confident that Arizona will rise to the challenge. We will meet divisive rhetoric with love and compassion, we will treat our neighbors with respect, and we will stand together against bigotry and injustice. We are Arizonans, and we are proud of our diverse and beautiful state.”
