OFFICIAL CAMPAIGN STATEMENT ON AHCA

Deedra Abboud, Candidate for U.S. Senate on Why the AHCA is Not Right for AZ

Phoenix, Arizona: Today, the Senate proposed a health care bill meant to replace the Affordable Care Act. This bill does not offer reasonable replacements, but rather is another move in the political game our elected officials keep playing with our lives. Deedra Abboud, candidate for U.S. Senate who is opposing Senator Jeff Flake, said the following:

“We depend on our elected leaders to represent us. Not because we pay taxes, not because we are donors, not even because we are voters, but because that is the job elected leaders agreed to do when they ran for public service offices.  American lives are not a commodity to be traded on the open market for the profit of a few. We can do better.”

Despite the secrecy that remains associated with this bill, reactions from Senators show that this bill is a worse version of the appalling one previously presented by the House.

  • Medicaid coverage for long-term care could be cut as federal payments to states decline.
  • The effects of an unhealthy society extend far beyond those with chronic illnesses, the poor, children, and the elderly. An unhealthy society is mirrored in our economy.
  • Elected leaders should not be trading our health and our economy in exchange for corporate donations, donor obligations, and personal gain.
